Our creative writing team of Dean Clark and Shaun M Jooste have not only been working hard on creating the in-game plot, quests, dialogue and side missions, but have also been working on creating the first Heroes of Antreya novel. The full title is called Heroes of Antreya: The Journey Begins, and is now available on paperback and ebook.
There is a dark omen upon the lands of Antreya. Kidnappings are becoming a severely common occurrence, and the Antreyan faction leaders are becoming more and more concerned. Word spreads across the land of these disappearances, as three young warriors finalise their faction trials. Krestyl, a Vyrocin Reyt, is the first to set off on her quest to discover the cause behind these disappearances. Unknown to her, a Trelys Minoseun called Sernagum and a Resuin Siopus called Darius set off on the same mission, each for their own purposes.
Despite taking different paths and learning various mysteries along the way, all three meet up in the desert town of Alindria. When they discover that their goals are the same, Krestyl suggests that they work together to find the source of the kidnappings. Each one sets off to do their part, uncovering clues to one large puzzle that may be bigger than the three of them put together. And when all of them team up to fight the largest battle of their lives, they wonder if they can truly trust each other’s motives.
Clark and Jooste have created a character from each of the factions and races, giving us a variety of personalities, powers and attributes to experience in literary form. Future Antreya Chronicles players will be able to choose one of these races to play with, so the story gives readers a good idea what their characters will be like. The novel is rich in Antreya Lore, featuring the gods that will feature heavily in the entire Heroes of Antreya series and Antreya Chronicles MMORPG. Readers will also get the first taste of magic in the novel, with only a handful of the magic abilities being displayed that will be featured in the game.
In the meantime, the designers and developers of Antreya Studios are hard at work creating the levels and environments that players will be set in. We’re hoping to bring you a huge open world that rivals the likes of Elder Scrolls Online and the Fable game series, with magic, lore and combat in abundance. We’re working hard to bring you the first installment of the game soon, with a team very much committed to bringing you the best fantasy MMORPG you’ll ever see.
Celenic Earth Publications, exclusive publishers of Heroes of Antreya: The Journey Begins, is running a launch week special on the paperback and ebook for this week only, so make sure you pick up a copy while it is still on discount. Clark has written about his experience writing the Reyt and Siopus characters Krestyl and Darius, which you can catch on his blog.
Krestyl is probably my favorite character of the novel. I knew that a strong, female leader would be the best fit for the trio and that the best way to have one so strong-willed is to have her entire purpose, or drive if you rather, to be all about uncovering the dark secrets that many still focused on rebuilding society have unfortunately overlooked and brushed off. Following her instincts, she wanted to know why people were missing and wanted to find the source.
Jooste also shared his experience writing the Minoseus character Sernagum for the novel.
Much of the visual description and characteristics I utilised for Sernagum was based on one thought: What would Gimli from Lord of the Rings have been like had he been a growing adolescent in the world of Antreya. I molded that with some of my personal traits and developed a brand new character.
Be sure to collect your copy of this debut Antreyan novel and prepare yourself for an epic MMORPG!
